My Chosen Companies

I have decided to use "Blumhouse" productions for my film. This is
because it makes low-budget successful films.

Jason Blum is an Academy Award-nominated and two-time Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producer. His multi-media company, Blumhouse Productions, pioneered a new model of studio filmmaking: producing high-quality micro-budget films. Blumhouse, which is in the midst of a ten year first look deal with Universal Pictures, has produced films like the highly profitable The Purge, Insidious, Ouija and Paranormal Activity franchises which have grossed more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office. Blum recently produced Jordan Peele’s Get Out which has grossed over $150 million domestically and earned a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split which has grossed over $260 million worldwide. The company’s model began with the original Paranormal Activity, which wa $15,000 and grossed close to $200 million worldwide, making it the most profitable film in Hollywood.

I have also decided to use "Platinum Dunes" productions in association with "Blumhouse" because after researching horror film production companies, I found that usually they have more than one company to help distribute the film. As both these companies specialise in horror films this will also help the film to be successful.

Platinum Dunes is an American production company created in November 2001 by filmmakers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form. The company produces horror films, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Purge, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Ouija and A Quiet Place.

On October 7, 2009, Paramount Pictures announced a first-look deal with Platinum Dunes. They plan to branch out of the horror genre into action and thrillers with this new deal. On May 27, 2010, it was announced they would work on the reboot to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series of the same name. In 2014, Platinum Dunes was named The Hollywood Reporter's Producers of the Year. In 2015, the company was also named to The Hollywood Reporter's 30 Most Powerful Film Producers in Hollywood.
Lastly, I have chosen to include "Universal Pictures" as one of my production companies as it is a multi media conglomerate and will therefore help strengthen the film's advertising campaign.

Universal pictures is an American film studio, owned by Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBCUniversal, and is one of Hollywood's "Big Six" film studios. It's production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in in Universal City, California. Distribution and other corporate offices are in New York City. Universal Studios is a member of the Motion Picture Association of America.

Unfriended Poster Analysis

--> The main image here is of one of the character's most likely to be the protagonist. --> The protagonist is shown here using a close up shot. The use of this shot makes the character seem close towards the audience. Implying that during the film the audience will become closer to the character and is likely to sympathise for them. --> Dull/dark colours (black, white, grey) --> Use of red, could represent blood within the film and a sense of violence. --> Black background, makes the writing and picture on the poster stand out. --> Movie title (san serif, biggest writing, most bold), indication of genre - located at the bottom to allow focus on the image. --> Credits located at the bottom. --> Tagline - gives away a bit of the storyline. --> Cinema release month. --> Social media links.

Insidious 2 Poster Analysis

--> The main image of the poster is of 3 of the main protagonists. --> The protagonists are seen through the use of a medium shot, to make the audience feel closer with the characters. --> Dull/dark use of colours. --> Low level lighting. --> Some use of red to perhaps represent blood or violence within the film. --> Dark background to allow focus on the image and the writing on the poster. --> Name of the film (san serif, biggest wiring, most bold, indication of genre) located on the side of the poster. --> Credits in small writing located at the very top. --> Release date. --> Website name. --> Tagline - gives away some of the storyline.

Potential Sketch Layouts

After doing research into different kinds of film posters, I sketched out 3 different potential layouts I may want to use for the poster of my film. I noticed a trend within horror film posters - they all seem to have very minimal writing on them and most likely has one main image. Therefore due to this I think that the top, and bottom posters would be the most successful.
