Horror Films Website Analysis

Annabelle Comes Home:

The homepage of this website consists of mainly low saturated and very few colours. The serif font in which the title of the film is written in, allows this to stand out and perhaps give away a bit of the narrative. The small bits of red used within the website may connote a sense of blood or danger reinforcing the genre of the film. The other pages also consist of mainly just black and white colours.

The First Purge:

The websites aesthetics consist of mainly black and white colours, as well as some red within the title of the film and titles on other pages to connote danger or blood. The main image within the homepage is of short clips from the film (the most unsettling ones) playing on a loop.

US:

This website includes mainly black and white colours, with the main trailer of the film on the homepage. The woman shown in the first photo above, can be seen through the use of a medium close up so that the viewer can easily see her facial expression where in this photo she looks terrified.

The Prodigy:

This film's website has a red and white themed colour palette. The use of red could be used to perhaps portray the danger found within the film. The homepage includes the main trailer of the film, the release date and an option to book tickets. The background picture of where the synopsis is found, is a sinister photo of the protagonist/antagonist illustrated by half of a skull on one side of his face, leaving the half normal. This may also give away a bit about the narrative.

Escape Room:

This website has a dark colour palette, and black background on the homepage allowing the title of the film to stand out. The use of red can come across as overwhelming to the viewer, and also reinforces the film's genre. The review "Scary AF" can engage the viewer's attention, and unsettle them. The main image used on the homepage is of what looks like to be a main character from the film, taken from a low angle/close up shot in order to make it look sinister.

Potential Sketch Layouts

After doing research into different kinds of film posters, I sketched out 3 different potential layouts I may want to use for the poster of my film. I noticed a trend within horror film posters - they all seem to have very minimal writing on them and most likely has one main image. Therefore due to this I think that the top, and bottom posters would be the most successful.
