A Rough Storyline

Two British girls (Abi and Livvy) are on their way to a party, when they find themselves lost with a broken down car. After having attempted to fix their car, they run around an empty neighbourhood looking for some help. When they realise that there's nobody around, they run to the nearest house for help, but are unaware that this is owned by a crazed surgeon. The girls are welcomed in by the strange man and are offered something to drink. As the man is preparing their drinks, he puts some sort of drug in them, which is later discovered by the girls when they wake up in an unusual shed, covered in pictures of both the girls and previous examples of the surgeon's work on other girls.

After the girls wake up they meet again with the crazy man, when he tells them about his plans. The doctor explains to his two captives that he is an aspiring surgeon wanting to make new discoveries in order to fulfil his clear obsession with dolls. He describes in detail how he will surgically convert the girls into dolls. After Abi fails in an attempt to escape, she is punished by the doctor and is made unconscious so that he can move her into a more secure area.

A couple days go past and Abi wakes up in another strange location, where she is separated from her friend and has been practised on as part of her punishment and now resembles a doll. She is greeted by a girl who has been turned into a doll and lets Abi know that she has been trapped for a very long time and to try and get out now whilst she can.

A few days later, two local detectives arrive at the doctor's house to investigate the disappearance of the two missing girls. They look around the house thoroughly and don't seem to find the girls or any evidence. This is because the doctor had already moved both girls into two different unknown locations. The detectives finally leave the house after not being able to find anything, however are still very suspicious and adds the doctor onto their suspects list.

One of the girls dies and the doctor's response is to rush out to find another girl to replace Livvy. Unknown to him, one of the detectives has been staking out his house and once the doctor leaves, he breaks in and finds the remaining girls. Just as they are leaving, the doctor returns with another victim. As the detective tries to apprehend the doctor, he's fatally sliced across the neck, as he lies dying he shoots the doctor killing him.

Unfriended Poster Analysis

--> The main image here is of one of the character's most likely to be the protagonist. --> The protagonist is shown here using a close up shot. The use of this shot makes the character seem close towards the audience. Implying that during the film the audience will become closer to the character and is likely to sympathise for them. --> Dull/dark colours (black, white, grey) --> Use of red, could represent blood within the film and a sense of violence. --> Black background, makes the writing and picture on the poster stand out. --> Movie title (san serif, biggest writing, most bold), indication of genre - located at the bottom to allow focus on the image. --> Credits located at the bottom. --> Tagline - gives away a bit of the storyline. --> Cinema release month. --> Social media links.

Potential Sketch Layouts

After doing research into different kinds of film posters, I sketched out 3 different potential layouts I may want to use for the poster of my film. I noticed a trend within horror film posters - they all seem to have very minimal writing on them and most likely has one main image. Therefore due to this I think that the top, and bottom posters would be the most successful.
